With the closing of the Kaiser Steel blast furnaces in 1983, some fabrication continued at the site using imported slab steel from Brazil. SP had the contract to haul the slab from the Long Beach Harbor to Fontana. Later the hauling was done by the BNSF. A very detailed academic look at Kaiser is Fontana is here.
