A Busy 'False Spring' Saturday in Helena

Saturday, February Feb 19 we had a high temperature of at least 56F. Was very nice to run around without a jacket. This morning it was minus 8F with a wind chill as much as minus 35F, life in the Northern Rockies. Far from the record low for February though. According to Wikipedia that was a Siberia like minus 42F !

Our daily grainer empty super train puling out after its depot crew change.

Faded, but still handsome.

Just a single mid-train DPU, there are usually two.

Rear end, head end is probably almost to East Helena.

MRL power pinch hits on this westbound empty well car express.

Intermodal symmetry, ocean stacks east, empty platforms west.

And the very next day!

A 5 unit Mullan Helper heads out to Helena Jct. during a snow squall as the grainer it will help waits at the depot.
