Powder River Basin Pre-DPU (and single track even.)

Southbound coal loads struggle up the hill at Walker, Wyoming in 1989. These were the 5 unit 3000 h.p. building block days of SD40-2s, C30-7s, and U30Cs.



Project Yellow, though, brings a change with SD60s effecting a one unit reduction.

Power from three railroads and coal hoppers from one.

  2. Great photos, and memories of the era. I used to travel often to South Dakota and took the off freeway routes so I could observe the RR action. Thanks for posting.
