Aircraft on Rails - Two

Photographs from the San Diego Air and Space Museum Flickr Convair collection. Pictured is the loading of wing sections for the Convair CV-240 airliner. Meant initially to compete with the DC-3, the plane featured cabin pressurization. The captions on Flickr state that the parts were bound for American Airlines in Buffalo, New York, so not sure about the final assembly. The whole Flickr collection can be found here.  As you can see from all the labor put in to load these sections, why specialized aircraft cars were developed. Location is the Convair factory at Lindbergh Field in San Diego.

Maiden flight of the Convair CV-240. San Diego minus high-rises.
