"Shades" of the SP on the MRL

Helena Ready Tracks on Friday

Reminiscent of SP's pre Tunnel Motor radiator shroud experiments from the early Seventies, are these screens on the radiators of a set of four MRL SD70ACe's.

I presented this thread to a retired MRL man who would know, and he quickly pointed out the personnel visible in PDX's photo. Screens on the radiator blister are apparently allowed to hang open during power washing (those ACe's can get mighty grubby after a few helper trips), and are then returned to their normal (semi)-upright position before take-off.
