Westbound Amtrak San Diegan at Highland Ave. Fullerton, California - 1989 |
A whole lot has changed in Fullerton since this photo was taken. When the Hunt's cannery was still open at Basta in west Fullerton, the aroma of tomatoes being cooked was in the air. The Santa Fe did a huge business with the Hunt's, and XF food service boxcars abounded. Highland Avenue was later grade seperated, and the triple track project meant the demise of the cantilever signal bridge. The Hunt's plant closed in 1996. BTW, Fullerton was also the home of Fender Guitars, Donald Duck Orange Juice, and Hawaiian Punch.
