Santa Fe westbound negotiates the shoo-fly for the Harbor Blvd. underpass construction. |
Harbor Blvd. was the main north/south artery through Orange County pre 57 Freeway. It was both the route to the beach, and more importantly, Disneyland, as far as I was concerned. The grade crossing featured pedestrian crossing signals for Harbor's sidewalks. With the construction of the underpass, Santa Fe built a shoo-fly that cut into the old brick platform. After construction was over, and the main moved back to its normal location, the shoo-fly portion of the platform was paved with asphalt. The resulting semi-circular patch was visible for years afterward. Note that the two Geeps still have their original numbers, but the renumbering is just months away. About half way back in the train, is Lemon Avenue, which will get the underpass treatment about 12 years later.
