| Santa Fe EB threads the Bascule bridge at Middle River, California |
Middle River, California is one of those places where you can be just several hundred feet from a road that would take almost an hour to reach by car. The Santa Fe route across the San Joaquin Delta is almost completely straight, but highway access is round about. I spent the night in my trusty Honda to be there this September morning in 1992, and caught the two trains shown above.
