SP 4422 E. Rex Hill, Oregon - June 1986
Southern Pacific's crossing of the mighty Chehalem Range, aka Rex Hill. This is not an easy place for the rail photographer to get a photo that coveys a sense of geography. View are narrow, so out came my Canon f 2.8 20mm lens. This is not a lens that I ever used on a regular basis. You really need an interesting foreground in most cases to make a successful picture. The train originated in McMinville and is bound for Brooklyn Yard. Five almost spotless SD9 rebulids are down to about 5 mph, and the sand is flying.
