East End City of Industry Yard - 1970

Three new SD45s make a switch move at the COI Yard. The Pomona Valley Inn has long since closed.

  1. Speaking of the east end of CoI, do you recall when the hump yard was put into operation? By the looks of this photo it predates the hump yard.

  2. Virlon,

We moved to Walnut in 1965, and I made my first trips on my old Schwinn Typhoon in 1966 or 67, and the hump was in by then.

  3. I think it was later than 66 or 67. I worked the classifier job, which was prior to the hump yard being built, and that was 1969. As soon as the SP opened the hump, my crew and I were the first crew to hump cars over the new mini hump.
