Coast Line

In the late Seventies and Eighties, I almost made as many trips to Cuesta, as I did to Tehachapi, even though the train frequency was of course much less on the Coast, and many shots required a lot of walking. The first photo below is an EB with sugarbeets headed to Union Sugar in Betteravia taken at the old siding of Edna,  just south of San Luis Obispo in 1980. SP's U30Cs were in their last years of service, and were then staying closer to their Taylor Diesel base than formerly. The rest of the photos are of a WB, probably a West Colton/Oakland train, at Goldtree, California. Note the two SD39s getting a break from LA Basin drag service. These units are former BAK/TF power like their U30C brethren.
