Starting a feature on a Union Pacific C.T.C. Siding Installation. Link to history of Western Railroad Supply Co. of Chicago, Illinois.
It takes a host of different components to make a C.T.C. siding function. Fortunately, here in Nipton, California, on Union Pacific's former Los Angeles and Salt Lake, there were still wires to photograph ( at least as of March, 2005 when these photos were taken.) More modern signal installations have nearly all of their wiring buried underground. UP's as shown here is now quite the anachronism. In this photo we see the signal relay box on the left, and the bundled cable leading to the signal lines, including a Western Railroad Supply junction box.
