Mojave Narrows - Forty Some Years Later

Santa Fe westbound from the pinnacle visible in the wreck photos. To the left is the Mojave  River and its riparian cottonwood forest. Just downstream from here, the Mojave sinks into the sands to become an underground river. Visible in the upper left is the old Route 66 truss bridge. 
A 180 from the view above. The SWPC cement plant is visible in the top left.

Santa Fe SD45-2 5848 leads a westbound across the Mojave River at East Victorville, California. I am standing on the old George AFB spur right of way, now just a dirt road.
