Heavy traffic on the Second District. SD45 5356 leads a stack train across the L.A. River.
For years the Santa Fe was stymied by a law in Pasadena that limited the length of freight trains.

ATSF 5848 W. at East Victorville. The granite boulders in the area are coated with a layer of cement that is windblown from the SWPC cement plant.

  1. I remember the Pasadena Sub shutting down when I was a young pup; what exactly was the law in Pasadena limiting the length of freight trains? Great photos, regardless.

  2. I think the Pasadena law limited trains to 25 cars.
