I was very fortunate to acquire a J.A. bootleg in the early Seventies. A transluscent blue record with a plain white cover, and a blue rubber stamped titled "Up Against the Wall." It was recorded off of live TV, a broadcast by KQED of the Airplane live, near the very end of the classic lineup with Spencer Dryden on drums. I could hear the buzz of the TV in the background, but it was still an album I listened to constantly, a superb live performance. Much has often been said of the Kaukonen/Casady "axis" in the Airplane, but that ignores the brilliant rhythm playing of Paul Kantner.
