The blog Oil Electric, has a fascinating post about iron ore shipments to China. It is basically a struggle between two emerging economic super powers, Brasil and China. Notably absent is the United States. It was not too terribly long ago, that taconite was exported to Japan from the Kaiser Eagle Mountain Mine in California. Later, the mill at Fontana exported slab steel to Brasil, via the Port of Long Beach.
