My mother went through a similar ordeal at your father's present age. ICU and the whole bit; including re-hab. My mom is now almost 99 years old and is still sharp. Keep their influenza shots up to date, I thought my mom was going to die several years a go, Re-hab pulled her through and she has had many good years since.
Keep them away from illness and on top of their doctor's visits and I am confident that your father can join my mother in longevity. I will keep my fingers crossed.
