  1. I believe that the common geographic thread of the five locations is that they are all in or around the Mediterranean Sea, although I cannot identify all five:

    1. Unknown
    2. Sardinia
    3. Toulon, France
    4. Algiers, Algeria
    5. Alexandria, Egypt

  2. Yes, you are correct about the proximity to the Mediterranean, but No. 3 is also in Africa, and for No.1, think active volcano. Thanks for playing.

    1. That would put #1 in Sicily, I think (Mount Etna), and #3 would likely be Oran, in Algeria (a portion of the French Fleet was destroyed in the harbor of nearby Mers-el-Kebir in July 1940 by a British task force)
