Brew 102 - Served by Alco

USC Digital Archive
A tiger stripe SP Alco switcher is visible at the center right of this photograph, looking east from the observation tower of the Los Angeles City Hall.  No freight car are visible, maybe they really did use horse piss in Brew 102! Note that the curvature of the street in the foreground wound up being preserved when it became an on-ramp for the 101 Freeway.

Perfected after 101 brews.
An interesting bio of the owner of Maier Brewing is here. The beer may have been crap, but the brewery was a major Los Angeles landmark for years. As you approached downtown on northbound 101, you crossed the L.A. River, and Santa Fe's First Street yard, but what dominated the view were the gasometers and Brew 102.
