Ed Burkhardt Department, Or Old BN SD45's Never Die

Wisconsin Central 6655 leads two other ex BN SD45's south out of N. Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in June of 1992.

Another Lac, a different time. BN was the first railroad to shitcan its 20 cylinder power, but thankfully this coincided with the spinoff era, and so, solid sets of 45's on the Whiskey Central. I ran into a railfan yesterday, who was actually defending the use of one man crews on oil trains. When I suggested to him that there are larger issues associated with railroading than just the bottom line, he suggested that I was some sort of communist.

Read this great piece on Ed Burkhardt by Gearhead Grrrhere.

  1. I had the honor of operating 3 different SD45s on an eastern Washington shortline. Two were from the Seaboard Coast line and the third was ex Penn Central. They were good engines, powerful and reliable. They are gone now
