ZLASE - Loco Trace Mania - Hot Pig Trains

ZLASE being yarded at Albina - Summer 2000

Usual power for the ZLASE was 4-5 8100s

Finally out of town for Seattle, at North Portland Jct. in fading light.

One of the last shining hopes for the bummed out SP fan in Portland, circa 1999-2000. was the Los Angleles to Seattle "Z" train the ZLASE. This was one hot train which paradoxically  cooled its heels in Albina during much of the afternoon before finally getting out of town in the early evening. Back then I would trace the entire fleet of SP's C44-9Ws everyday, 101 units. All was fine in this little bubble for a couple of years and then whammo, the Borg assimilated them into yellow in a flash.
