Locomotive Diagrams SP Eugene Shops - 1972

SP diesel diagrams Eugene Shops, 1972
SP diesel diagrams Eugene Shops, 1972

These racks of locomotive schematics and diagrams were photographed deep in the bowels of SP's Eugene, Oregon shops. There is some very interesting evidence in these photos of locomotive and operating practices of the time, and even the story of several particular units. Near the top left in the top photo is a drawer for F-7B 8104. This locomotive was repainted by Eugene shop forces in the obsolete black widow scheme of black with a red frame stripe. This willful act of shop independence reportedly did not go over well at 65 Market. There are three drawers visible for F-7A 355.  This unit was transferred at some point from the T&NO lines to the Pacific Lines, and was equipped as a passenger unit. It spent its last years though, working mostly out of Eugene, on trains like the 706 Toledo Hauler.  Offline units are also represented, UP SD40s, and SD45s,  leased D&RGW F-7Bs, and EMD SD45Xs. It gets a little more exotic in the bottom photo.  Alco C630s,  and RDS15s, and Baldwin S-12s.
